La Plume – Keystone College’s Civic Engagement Program will sponsor a service project in honor of Martin Luther King on Monday, Jan. 20, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in Evans Hall in Hibbard Campus Center.
Keystone students and community volunteers will assemble sleeping bags for the homeless in conjunction with the Hop Bottom, Pa.-based My Brother’s Keeper Quilt Group and its Sleeping Bag Project.
“Participating in the Sleeping Bag project is a rewarding experience for students and the community,” said Lucas Taylor, director of multicultural affairs and student activities at Keystone. “In order to uphold the vision and values of Martin Luther King, we have a commitment to our community and the world to help those in need.”
My Brother’s Keeper Quilt Group is an organization made up of individuals and groups desiring to help the homeless by making simple sleeping bags from recycled fabrics and distributing them free to the homeless.
Keystone students will use the organization’s supplies to assemble sleeping bags and distribute them free of charge to individuals and organizations throughout the region.
