Keystone College to host Bill Carter and his “Presbybop Quintet”

Nov 7, 2024

Bill Carter and his “Presbybop Quintet” will be offering a free jazz concert at Keystone College on Sunday, November 10 at 7 p.m.  The group is welcomed as part of the Keystone College Department of Performance Music guest artist series, who are grateful for their performance on campus, and sponsored by a grant from Lackawanna County.  Musicians include Bill Carter on piano, Keystone’s own Director of Percussion Instruction, Tyler Dempsey, on drums, Tony Marino on bass, Jeff Stockham on trumpet and French horn, and Michael Carbone on saxophones.  The concert will be held in The Theatre at Brooks.

The band will perform some for the best-known tunes from their eleven recordings, along with some of Carter’s new compositions for an upcoming recording project. They will also play familiar tunes by composers such as Horace Silver, Lee Morgan, and Vince Guaraldi.  According to their website at www.presbybop.com , “Presbybop Music exists to create, perform, record, and distribute jazz music that expresses and enlivens the human spirit. We create music that reaches for transcendence while keeping our listeners’ feet tapping on the ground. It’s all about integration. Our jazz connects faith and the arts, joy and justice, musical freedom and the building of community. We firmly believe jazz improves human life!”

Director of Bands & Performance Music Mr. Jeff Tylutki stated, “It’s an incredible opportunity for both the community and our students to enjoy a concert presentation from musicians of this caliber, and for free!  Additionally, our own KC Jazz Ensemble was lucky enough to enjoy a clinic at our last rehearsal with Mr. Bill Carter, and that kind of educational opportunity for our musicians is simply invaluable.”
