POSITION: Area Coordinator

Salary: $30,000

REPORTS TO: Assistant Vice President for Student Life

 JOB PURPOSE: The area coordinator is responsible for the operation and management of the Resident community, which houses up to 300 students. They live on campus and provide leadership and support to the Resident Assistants (RA’s) and the Senior Resident Assistants (SRA’S). The Area Coordinator’s primary role is to assist students in building an inclusive community to enhance personal and academic growth and requires intentional efforts to interact with students, assess their needs, and promote community growth and development. Room and board are part of the compensation package. This is a “live-in” role and the incumbent is expected to reside on campus in the residence halls. The Area Coordinator will also participate in an on-call duty rotation with other Area Coordinators.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Supervises and supports Resident Assistants and Senior Resident Assistants by providing coaching and training, as well as conducting regular individual and group supervision meetings, and performance evaluations.
    • Adjudicates student conduct matters, advocates for and advises students with academic, career, and Residence concerns.
    • Assists in promoting the safety and security of area residents.
    • Processes room change requests and contract releases.
    • Provides on-call coverage on a rotating basis, including over holidays, Winter Break, and Spring Break.
    • Demonstrates a commitment to staff and student retention and recruitment efforts, particularly as they impact members of underrepresented groups.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience, Competencies, and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred
  • 1-2 years of Student Life experience in a private, Resident college setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent written, oral, and group presentation skills
  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Works well with a diverse undergraduate population; promotes an inclusive environment
  • Knowledge of multicultural issues, including historically under-represented ethnic groups, international students, physically challenged students, and other communities who have faced equal opportunity challenges.
  • Knowledgeable about the assessment cycle and co-curricular learning outcomes
